Fried Okra

Fried Okra

Ingredients
6 c oil, for frying
½ c cornmeal
1 c flour
2 tsp House Seasoning or Cajun seasoning
¼ tsp cayenne pepper
2 pounds fresh or frozen okra (thawed)
½ c buttermilk




Instructions


1. Heat oil in a large, heavy-bottomed skillet to 350 degrees or deep frier (my preference)
2. In a medium bowl, combine cornmeal, flour, house seasoning, and cayenne pepper.  
3. Dip okra in buttermilk and then dredge in cornmeal mixture to coat well.  
4. Carefully add okra to the hot oil and cook until golden brown.  
5. Remove from oil, drain on paper towels, and then serve.


House Seasoning


1 c salt
¼ c black pepper
¼ c garlic powder


Mix together and store in an airtight container for up to 6 months
