Labor Day Weekend Here We Come....
Everyone is looking forward to a long weekend to do the last picnics, boating and friend thing before the holidays are upon us with winter. Most of us will also spend time getting things ready for winter like taking the dock out, storing the summer water things and looking at what needs winterized around the house before a major freeze. We will take time to sleep in and think about football on Sunday afternoons and Monday nights. Then hockey season will be upon us (YES, my favorite sport). By Monday night we are all ready to return to work and the kids to go back to school.
A lucky few will get away and just relax. My hat off to those of you that know how to live right.
Being remarried and having step children has changed my life a lot. We have the youngest (15) step son over the Labor day weekend. We will go to the in-laws to remove the dock and put water things in storage. The lake is already really cool for swimming. We will grill out and the hubby and kids will dream of skiing for a while.soon.
My own children live 1800 miles away in Texas and will be hanging with their grandparents, friends or kid of their own. At times we would all come together for a picnic and games but as kids grow they develop their own holiday rituals.
Over the years I have had to adapt to an ever changing life. I love holidays and love to decorate for them. Until 3 years ago I decorated from one holiday to the next. Since remarrying and moving 1800 miles to Brattleboro, VT and leaving all my belonging in storage on the family ranch. I don't decorate except for Christmas. I think this ritual was my way of getting in the mood for the holiday. I have lost most of my holiday spirit and really just don't pay attention. I use to wear t-shirts and earrings to match each holiday. Cook a special meal that said it was that holiday. That part of me has been put in storage for a while. I miss my holiday spirit and may find it with time.
If you have holiday rituals KEEP them they are what makes the holiday a holiday. It is not a long weekend or the fact that it says it on the calender.
Enjoy your Labor Day Weekend and Relax
